Great music knows no boundaries… and neither will XM listeners. They will be
on the go – and that’s why we want to deliver radio that goes where they go
and always delivers the quality they will come to expect from us, not just in the
car but in the home, the office, the backyard, the beach, and even on boats
and planes.
XM’s unmatched reach is ensured by our:
Satellites.XM’s “Rock” and “Roll” satellites will be ideally positioned above
the east and west coasts of the United States in geostationary orbits with coast-
to-coast footprints, ensuring maximum signal strength and system reliability.
Repeaters. We’ll have a comprehensive network of broadcast repeaters
designed and built by leading experts in wireless network design and construc-
tion. The repeaters will augment satellite coverage in urban areas where tall
buildings and other obstructions might interfere with satellite radio reception.
Distribution.Agreements with General Motors, the world’s leading automo-
bile manufacturer, and other automakers will ensure XM radios reach new cars,
and replacement or aftermarket radios will be available at consumer electronics
retailers you know and trust, like Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears as well as
RadioShack franchise dealers, and regional distributors like Tweeter and
Magnolia Hi-Fi, among others. Other distributors will make our service accessi-
ble from boats and planes too.
XM radios.Already, six major manufacturers have unveiled 24 different
models of XM Ready radios that allow listeners to take XM with them wherever
they go. Pioneer and Alpine currently offer at retail a full range of XM Ready
radios from basic to feature-rich models. All of these radios include the AM and
FM bands and require only an XM tuner module and antenna (available this sum-
mer) to receive the XM service. In addition, these XM tuner modules will be
compatible with over three million Pioneer radios sold over the
past few years and in cars now.
Sony’s sleek “plug and play” unit… just
four by five inches with a cool 21st-
century design… will slip into an
electronic docking station for a
car stereo or on a tabletop at
the home or office. It’s no
wonder this ingenious device
won the prestigious CES
Innovations 2001 Award.
XM’s ability to be anywhere
and everywhere will be
an enormous convenience
to listeners who won’t
have to miss a minute of
XM programming.
