MUSiC TO THE POWER OF X
Music is about passion. Our listeners are passionate about their music… and
that passion finds expression in an incredible range of styles and preferences.
That’s why approximately half of XM Radio’s 100 channels will focus on different
music formats, many commercial free, including artists and sounds listeners
may have never heard on radio before. We will create these formats at XM
under the XM Originals banner. Country, Jazz, Show Tunes, Dance, Blues, Folk,
Classical, Fusion, Bluegrass, Gospel, American Standards, New Age and Urban
will all have their own channels. XM will also feature multiple Rock formats,
ranging from Classic Hard Rock to New Alternative Rock. There will even be six
Oldies channels featuring the best from each decade since the ‘40s.
And to ensure that this programming represents the very best of each genre,
we have built our channels around people who share our listeners’ passions…
an unparalleled, star-studded team of programmers and personalities including
many of the same visionaries who created the most successful formats and
stations on traditional radio. Our virtual United Nations of Music features names
like legendary Grammy winners Quincy Jones and Wynton Marsalis… king of
American Standards Jonathan Schwartz… Bruce Kelly, three times Billboard
Magazine’s Air Personality of the Year… Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer “Redbeard”…
Eddie Webb, the leading on-air rock personality in Chicago… and Martin
Goldsmith, a best-selling author and long-time host of a popular National Public
Radio classics program. Their passion will be contagious as they attract
audiences across America.
In addition, we’ll create specialty original music channels with the help of
partners such as:
Clear Channel Communications, the leader in AM/FM radio broadcasting; The
Country Music Hall-of-Fame, from which XM will broadcast a live, daily, five-hour
show featuring Country’s newest stars as well as performances and recordings
from the Hall’s vast archives; Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation, the national
leader in Spanish-language radio broadcasting, which will create innovative
music formats including Caribbean, Tejano and Rock En Español; Salem
Communications, the nation’s #1 Christian broadcaster, which will furnish XM
Radio with Traditional Christian and Contemporary Christian Music program-
ming; Radio One, a national leader in African-American urban radio, which will
program channels including Gospel, Hip Hop and Urban Top 40; and AsiaOne, a
leading Asian-language broadcaster.
Our passion is our listeners… and we are passionate about providing them the
greatest selection and quality in music available anywhere in radio.
