Best at CES. The 2001 Consumer Electronics Show – where this industry
judges new products hitting the market – heaped accolades on XM. We won the
prestigious “Best of CES” award for the automotive products category, and we
were a finalist in the overall “Best of Show” category – highlighting not only our
innovation but also our commitment to offer the best experience to our listeners.
Beyond our goal of being everywhere our listeners are, we are pursuing the
perfect sound from one of the largest all-digital radio broadcasting facilities
in the world.
From the heart of the nation’s capital, we will create amazing radio at our
150,000 square foot XM Broadcast
Center and corporate headquarters.
From here we will have access to 82
end-to-end fiber optic, all-digital
studios. These independent, fully
“floating” (suspended) studios will
provide such superior acoustic
isolation that classical music and
chainsaw rock n’ roll can be played
side by side without compromising
either’s sound quality. Our 2,600-
square-foot performance studio will
accommodate a 40-piece orchestra
and bring “live” performances to XM
listeners. We also have studios in
Nashville at the Country Music Hall of
Fame and in New York City.
XM sound quality will set a new
standard for radio, thanks to the use
of next-generation digital signal
processing technology based on
shared, decentralized digital audio components. All production will be
fully digitized with immediate access to shared resources on powerful
computer systems – including a digital library with two million songs.
Two seven-meter satellite uplink dishes on site will transmit up to 100
channels of programming to XM’s orbiting satellites 22,300 miles above
the earth.
That commitment to a quality experience will carry over to XM’s listener
care center. XM has recruited respected executives with extensive
customer service experience to ensure a satisfied listener base.
Being the best will underlie our approach to every aspect of our
listeners’ experience.
