Attracted premier strategic equity partners, as well as technology, radio
manufacturing and distribution partners. We have continued to build our “dream
team” of radio manufacturing and distribution partnerships, most recently adding the
best-known name in consumer electronics, SONY, to a group that already includes
such household names as Pioneer, Alpine, Sharp, Motorola, Clarion, Audiovox and
Mitsubishi Electric. General Motors is XM’s charter automotive partner and has
already placed an order for XM-Ready radios through Delphi Automotive Systems. In
addition, our recent agreements with Freightliner and Pana-Pacific give XM valuable
access to a major share of the U.S. truck market, while our LiveTV and Marine Audio
agreements give us access to commercial airline passengers and the marine market.
We have also attracted world-class and experienced technology partners, among
them Hughes Space & Communications, Hughes Network Systems, Alcatel, Telesat,
LCC International, Lucent, STMicroelectronics and the Fraunhofer Institute.
Last year we opened a new XM office in Detroit to complement our existing presence in
Tokyo, Japan and our Technology and Innovation Center in Deerfield Beach, FL. The new
Detroit location allows us to build and enhance our cooperative activities with important
OEM, manufacturing and technology partners, while continuing to attract new ones.
Built a roster of prestigious charter advertising partners and developed
valuable co-branding opportunities. During first quarter 2000, we unveiled XM’s
charter advertisers, featuring such well-known brands as AT&T and Allstate, and
leading advertising agencies, including Grey Advertising, J. Walter Thompson,
Ogilvy & Mather, and Saatchi & Saatchi’s Zenith Media. We also announced joint
marketing alliances with NASCAR, SFX Entertainment and LiveTV that collectively
will expose the XM brand to millions of consumers in key target audiences on the
ground and in the air.
Initiated the creation of compelling original and brand name audio content.
Compelling and relevant audio content – going beyond music alone – is essential to
attracting and retaining a healthy subscriber base, and XM’s radio programming will
be second-to-none. Our powerful programming mix includes branded channels
programmed by such leading partners as CNN News Group, Black Entertainment
Television, Radio One, USA TODAY and NASCAR, as well as our own XM ORIGINALS,
