XM iS COUNTiNG DOWN
We can truly claim that satellite is XM’s middle name. The alliances we
have forged with world-class satellite and terrestrial companies ensure our
ability to develop, launch and operate the most powerful, state-of-the-art
satellite system as the foundation of our innovative radio service.
Our technology partners, each a leader in its industry, include:
Hughes Space & Communications. The world’s leading satellite
company is building XM’s two operational satellites and a ground spare.
Alcatel Space. A leading supplier of high-tech equipment for global
communications is building our satellite communications payload.
Telesat Canada. The world’s most experienced commercial satellite
operator is building our telemetry, tracking and control system. Telesat will
also monitor and control XM’s two satellites, “Rock” and “Roll.”
LCC International, Inc. A leading telecom company that is engineering
and constructing XM’s repeater network.
Hughes Network Systems. A Hughes Electronics unit and world leader in
satellite and wireless products, networks and services, HNS is developing
and manufacturing XM’s terrestrial repeater systems and equipment.
STMicroelectronics and the Fraunhofer Institute: ST, the largest
provider of chipsets to the automotive industry and Fraunhofer, Europe’s
leading organization for applied research, are manufacturing superlative
quality chipsets and developing digital waveform processing software for
XM. The companies together created the first digital satellite radio
