Pension commitments under the previous system
Dr Frank Appel and Jürgen Gerdes have direct, nal-salary-based pension commit-
ments on the basis of their individual contracts, providing for benets in case of per-
manent disability, death or retirement. If the contract of a member ends aer at least
ve years of service on the Board of Management, the entitlements they have acquired
will vest in full. Members become entitled to benets due to permanent disability aer
at least ve years of service. Eligibility for retirement benets begins at the earliest at the
age of , or at the age of in the case of Jürgen Gerdes. e pensions are generally
geared towards annuity payments. However, the members of the Board of Management
have the option of choosing a lump sum payment instead of the annuity payment. e
benet amount depends on the pensionable income and the pension level derived from
the years of service.
