Navy Federal Annual Report 2006 17
As a young man
working at the
Naval Medical
Research Institute in
Bethesda, MD, David
Rollins was more inter-
ested in day-to-day
living than thinking
about retirement. When
he joined Navy Federal
25 years ago, he was
looking for a place on
base to have direct
deposit, checking and
savings. In addition, he
said, “I liked having
ownership in the credit
union as opposed to the
banks that I’d been
dealing with in the
past.
David married
Jeanne 18 years ago,
and as their lives grew
together, so did their
alliance with Navy
Federal. From car loans,
they expanded their
relationship to include
savings accounts and a
home improvement
loan. Like many baby
boomers today, the
couple decided they
wanted a second home.
They looked for a
waterfront location
where they could
indulge their love of
fishing and boating.
Plus, they wanted a
place to hang their nine-
foot sailfish, caught on
a fishing trip in 1990.
“We’ve never had a
wall big enough to
hang it on,” said David.
After finding their
dream home in
Cambridge, MD, they
came to Navy Federal
for the rates. They
refinanced their first
home, then took out a
mortgage to purchase
the second home. Later,
they refinanced both
mortgages when the
rates dropped signifi-
cantly. “We stayed in
touch with a Navy
Federal loan officer
almost every day,”
David said. “He was
phenomenal. We left
everything in his hands
on the second refinance
while we left on a
cruise. He really came
through for us.” Settle-
ment came off without
a hitch two days after
the couple’s return.
