2015 proved to be a pvotal year, wth
groundbreakng global agreements reached
on both clmate change and development
To realse the ambton ‘zero carbon, zero
poverty’ wll requre the prvate sector,
government and cvl socety to go beyond
‘busness as usual’, workng n partnershp
to acheve change at scale
In September 2015, the Unted Natons
adopted 17 Sustanable Development oals
(SDs) – a roadmap to 2030 that wll requre
concerted acton and partnershp between
governments, cvl socety and busness
Unlever has been an early leader on the
SDs through both the UN Hgh-level Panel
and our engagement wth the UN lobal
ompact LEAD group of sustanablty
leaders We also partnered wth lobal
tzen and Proect Everyone, campagnng
organsatons focused on motvatng young
people about sustanablty, to rase publc
awareness about the SDs As the world
looks towards the mplementaton of the
SDs, we are supportng the recently
establshed lobal ommsson on Busness
and Sustanable Development whch seeks
to work wth busness leaders across
sectors to broaden support for market-
based solutons

on lmate hange’s 21st onference of
the Partes (OP21) The result was a
hstorc agreement supported by an
unprecedented movement of prvate sector
acton The new legal agreement to tackle
clmate change s supported by plans from
every country to reduce emssons and a
range of commtments from companes,
nvestors, ctes and regons
Unlever worked wth the World Busness
ouncl for Sustanable Development
(WBSD), World Economc Forum (WEF),
UN lobal ompact and We Mean Busness
oalton to encourage companes to step
up ther efforts to address clmate change
n ther own operatons Speakng n Pars
at an event hosted by the UN Secretary
eneral and Presdent Hollande of France,
our EO Paul Polman urged busness
leaders to contnue to delver postve
momentum Unlever led by example and
announced ambtous targets to be carbon
postve n ts own operatons by 2030

far beyond the actons of governments
alone The mpact wll be felt n banks,
stock exchanges, boardrooms and
research centres as the world absorbs the
fact that a unque proect to decarbonse
the global economy has begun
Prevously, n 2014 we dentfed four areas
for acton where we want to see sector-
wde transformaton elmnatng
deforestaton sustanable agrculture and
mprovng lvelhoods access to clean
drnkng water, santaton and hygene
and women’s empowerment Essental to
delverng change n these areas are the
Unlever Sustanable Lvng Plan (USLP),
whch sts at the heart of our busness
model, our Sustanable Lvng brands that
brng the USLP to lfe, and global coaltons
and partnershps that take t to scale
ELIMINATIN DEFORESTATION
As part of our commtment on clmate
change, Unlever s workng to help end
deforestaton, whch accounts for up to
15% of global greenhouse gas emssons
We have made good progress on our
sustanable sourcng and deforestaton
agendas by workng n collaboraton wth
an ncreasng number of growers, traders,
manufacturers and retalers who have all
pledged to rd ther supply chans of
deforestaton
