The increase in consumption is due to Ubisoft’s business growth over 2009/2010, illustrated by the
acquisition of companies, the opening of new subsidiaries and a large number of new recruits this year.
Overall, the Group’s headcount rose by 11 % in 2009/2010.
In proportion to the number of employees and to sales, electricity consumption has remained stable.
Relative consumption per employee amounted to 3.10 KWh/employee for 2009/2010, compared with 3.07
KWh/employee for the previous year.
In 2010, the Group continued to encourage measures to reduce overall energy consumption.
Systematically switching off PCs is a practice that is applied every day in Germany, Australia, Japan, Spain,
the Netherlands, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The Group is also striving to bring lower-energy light bulbs into general use. Almost 80 % of our subsidiaries
currently use this type of light bulb, including in Romania, Denmark, China, the Netherlands, India and
Singapore.
Many subsidiaries have introduced good practices to limit consumption of air-conditioning and heating
systems, which are mostly shut down at weekends (server rooms being an exception).
1.1.4.3.1.2 Videoconferencing and business travel policy
Due to the Group’s international scale, employees frequently have to travel to other sites.
Group policy seeks to limit the environmental impact of these business trips and minimize the consequences
of travel wherever possible.
The following measures are favored:
- efficient management of employees’ appointments so that their travel is limited to the absolute
minimum;
- choosing the least expensive and most environmentally friendly means of transport;
- videoconferencing, conference calls and other collaborative means.
During the financial year, efforts to limit business travel and replace it with videoconferencing where possible
were stepped up, which reduced overall emissions linked to travel by Group employees.
Almost half of the Group’s subsidiaries are equipped with videoconferencing rooms and most have
implemented a specific policy for reducing business travel.
The Group is also aiming to make the use of web conferencing widespread, by systematically equipping new
work stations with webcams and microphones.
1.1.4.3.2 Ecological impact and sustainable management of resources used (excluding greenhouse
gas emissions)
In some countries, recycling complies with strict environmental regulations: in Germany, Ubisoft holds a
“Green License” in connection with the European directive on packaging.
In order to obtain the Green Dot label on its cardboard packaging, Ubisoft participates in the Eco-packaging
contribution scheme and similar schemes at its French, Spanish and Italian subsidiaries.
