the Size of Contribution in Reducing CO2 Emissions
(CO2 emissions)
*1 Affected by restructuring of the TV business that has major influence on CO2 reduction per unit, the FY2013 target in CO2 reduction contribution
has been revised.
*2 Size of contribution in reducing CO2 emissions is defined as the amount achieved by deducting the actual emissions from the amount that would have
been emitted without improvements such as the energy-saving performance of our products and productivity from fiscal 2006. In other words, it reflects
the continuous efforts being made to reduce CO2 emissions. (For details please refer to page 11 of the Company’s ‘eco ideas’ Report 2012).

Aiming to be a Green Innovation Company,
Panasonic is making the environment central
to all its business activities. The Company
aims to reduce CO2 emissions not only from
production activities, but also from customers’
everyday lives through its products. We are
also working to achieve Recycling-oriented
Manufacturing to make the best use of
resources, contributing to the realization of a
sustainable society.
categories, including contribution to reducing
CO2 emissions and contribution to recycling
resources. We are pursuing these objectives
simultaneously, working to integrate our
environmental contribution and business growth.
To achieve our vision looking to the 100th
anniversary of our founding and Green Indexes, we
have formulated Green Plan 2018, which amounts
to an environmental action plan for all employees.
Centered on four Green Index categories, this
plan establishes objectives to be achieved by
fiscal 2019 for a variety of environment-related
initiatives and serves as the base from which we
will conduct proactive environmental activities
throughout the Group.
By fiscal 2019, we aim to make net CO2 emissions
from our entire business operations peak out
(reach a peak and decline thereafter). A major
portion of CO2 emissions across all our operations
comes from emissions when customers use our
products. In addition to introducing a unique
indicator, size of contribution in reducing CO2
emissions, and striving to reduce CO2 emissions
in production activities, we are also accelerating
initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions from product
use, which includes the aggressive development
and sale of energy-saving and energy-creating
products.
In fiscal 2012, against the size of contribution in
reducing CO2 emissions target of 37 million tons,
we achieved 40.37 million tons. In addition to our
own company, we have also commenced initiatives
to reduce CO2 throughout the supply chain.
Contribution to Recycling Resources
Initiatives
As part of our efforts to realize a sustainable
society, we are pursuing Recycling-oriented
Manufacturing throughout our business
operations, in which we are working to maximize
our use of recycled resources and minimize
waste generated from production activities.
For fiscal 2013, we have set the percentage of
recycled resources used in total resources used
to more than 12%. In fiscal 2012, we achieved
14.7%, surpassing this goal.
In addition, in spring of 2012 we launched a
series of Resources Recycling-oriented
Products of refrigerators, washing machines,
vacuum cleaners and rice cookers that use
materials recycled from collected products.
Through efforts such as using insulation materials
made from recycled glass wool harvested from
CRT televisions and employing plastics from
products recycled in recycling factories, we
are working to expand such Resources
Recycling-oriented Products throughout the world,
thereby contributing to the development of a
sustainable society.
In 2010, we formulated the vision looking to the
100th anniversary of our founding in 2018, in
which we aim to be the No. 1 Green Innovation
Company in the Electronics Industry.
We set as indicators net sales, operating profit
ratio and other specific numerical management
targets, as well as Green Indexes in four
