Making California children smile
The Healthy Smiles Mobile Dental Foundation will
oer ongoing oral health services to more than
2,500 currently underserved children in Fresno,
Kings, Madera and Merced Counties in California
as a result of a 2015 Cigna Foundation grant.
Using a mobile van equipped as a state-of-the-
art dental oce, Healthy Smiles Mobile Dental
Foundation professionals travel to more than
75 rural and inner-city communities. A critical
component of their services is oral health
education for both children and their parents.
The grant helps cover oral health supplies,
sealants that prevent decay on primary molars
and other expenses associated with operating
an eective traveling clinic.
Going the distance for people with disabilities
The Cigna Foundation is a longtime supporter of
Achilles International, founded in 1983 to support the
achievements of people with disabilities. Through
Achilles International programs, Cigna volunteers join
runners with disabilities in an environment of support
and community.
Some of Cigna’s own customers with disability
coverage benefit from the relationship with Achilles,
including Christine Malley, a 29-year-old Minneapolis,
Minnesota resident who became blind as an adult as a
result of a rare spinal disease. As part of her recovery,
she worked with a vocational coach at Cigna. Christine’s
coach referred her to the Achilles Cigna Customer
Referral program, which connects Cigna disability
customers with an Achilles International trainer and
fitness resources to incorporate exercise and activity
with the goal of helping individuals return to health
and, in many cases, return to work.
