Leader
Today, Jeffrey Mingo works in a congressional district office in Illinois. In 1999, he received his law
degree from Boalt Hall at the University of California. He funded his education through a combi-
nation of loans, including loans from Sallie Mae. Last year, he hit the jackpot—winning Sallie
Mae’s TrueCareers SweepstakesSM, held monthly through the Company’s Web site. TrueCareers
offers online career guidance and job listings for those who have attended college. Winning
the sweepstakes gave Jeff two options: up to $25,000 in loan forgiveness from Sallie Mae or
$12,000 in cash. He chose the $12,000 and used it to pay off loans from the U.S. Department
of Education. “I’m very grateful to Sallie Mae and I think this is a great sweepstakes. It gave
me an edge on repaying my education loans,” says Mingo. That’s what Sallie Mae’s all about:
giving people a chance to succeed.
