LG Electronics Mobile Communications
Company is a global leader and
innovator in the worldwide mobile
market, providing consumers with
better mobile experiences through
its advanced mobile technology and
premium handset design capabilities.
In pursuit of the company’s vision of becoming a
global top tier mobile phone company by 2010, we
will continue to reinforce our core competencies
by focusing on R&D and brand marketing. In
CDMA, where we have been number one for two
consecutive years, we will look to secure our
market dominance while still actively advancing
our 3G and GSM businesses. Furthermore, we will
strive to lead the trends in mobile communications
by continually developing mobile phones that
incorporate breakthrough functions, are more
convenient, and most importantly, feature unique
designs that speak to our customers emotionally.
As one of our strategies in 2006, we pursued open
markets with our premium handsets, achieving
dominant positions as a premium brand in many
regions around the world. In the process, LG
Electronics set new standards for functional design
and style. LG's top models are the Chocolate phone,
Shine phone, and PRADA Phone by LG.
The Chocolate phone was the rst handset in the
premium Black Label series and has sold over 10
million units. It has achieved great commercial
success and become a global sensation. This year’s
Black Label follow-up, the LG Shine, builds on last
year’s success, but moves in a new direction. This
gleaming fashionista-friendly handset is encased in
sleek stainless steel, giving it a mirrored look.
The PRADA Phone by LG, developed through
intimate collaboration with worldwide luxury brand
PRADA, is an industry breakthrough: a unique
and elegant mobile phone with the world's rst
completely advanced touch screen interface.
Already garnering attention for its smart looks,
this handset won the "Best of the Best" at the 2007
reddot Design Awards.
LG Electronics is also leading the world 3G market,
which is expected to reach 16 million units in 2007.
LG Electronics' mobile business gained momentum
this year from a different type of award: our LG-
KU250 3G handset was selected in February
for the GSM Association’s “3G for All” campaign
by a consortium of the world’s twelve largest
mobile operators. LG Electronics is supplying 3G
handsets globally through close alliances with
telecommunication giants. We are also producing
hit 3G premium models, including the Chocolate
and Shine phones.
In the mobile TV market, which has a forecasted
demand of around 20 million units, we lead in three
main broadcast technologies: DVB-H, MediaFLO,
and DMB. In addition, we plan to continue our
leadership with products that offer specialized
multimedia functions, such as the LG-KS10 smart
phone with PC-level functionality; the LG-CU500v
with improved Video Share Call function; and the
LG-LX550 with an FM transmission function and
touch wheel pad.
LG Electronics also led the industry with the
rst demonstration of HSUPA and 3G Long Term
Evolution (LTE), a fourth generation of wireless
communication technologies.
