Netrevenuesfromsalesoftitlesforthehand-heldfortheyearendedMarch31,2005increased456%fromthepriorfiscalyear,from$24.9millionto$138.7million.This
wasdrivenmainlybyasignificantincreaseinthenumberofGBAtitlesreleasedfromfourtitlesinfiscal2004toeleventitlesinfiscal2005andtheintroductionoftwonew
handhelddevices,NDS,whichwasreleasedworldwide,andPSP,whichwasreleasedinNorthAmerica.Wesuccessfullyexecutedourstrategyofhavingahigh-quality
presenceatthelaunchofboththeNDSandPSPplatformswithonetitlebasedontheSpider-ManfranchiseatthelaunchoftheNDSandtwotitlesbasedontheSpider-Man
andTonyHawkfranchisesforthelaunchofthePSP.InadditiontotheincreaseinthenumberofGBAtitlesreleased,weimplementedacustomizedmarketingplanforthe
GBAplatformanddemographictosupportastrongslateofnewreleasesincluding
THUG 2, Shrek 2: Beg for Mercy!, Shark Tale, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Spider-Man 2
and
Shrek 2
whichwerealltargetedtowardthedemographicoftheGBAaudience.
Weexpecttheoverallhand-heldmarkettogrowsignificantlywiththerecentreleasesoftheNDSandPSP.However,withthereleasesoftheNDSandPSPweexpectthat
marketsharefortheGBAwilleventuallybegintodecreasewhiletheoverallhand-heldmarketwillcontinuetoexpandwithagrowinginstalledbaseandbroaderdemo-
graphiconthenewerplatforms.Weexpecttocontinueourfocusondevelopinghand-heldgamesformass-marketconsumersforeachofthesehand-heldplatforms.
Duetotheexpectedincreaseintheoverallhand-heldmarketandourfiscal2006productslate,weexpectnetrevenuesfromsalesoftitlesforthehand-heldtoincrease
overfiscal2005.
Overall
Theplatform mixof our futurepublishingnet revenueswilllikely beimpacted byanumber of factors, including the ability of hardwaremanufacturers to continue to
increasetheirinstalledhardwarebase,theintroductionofnewhardwareplatforms,aswellasthetimingofkeyproductreleasesfromourproductreleaseschedule.We
expectthatnetrevenuesfromconsoletitleswillcontinuetorepresentthelargestcomponentofourpublishingnetrevenueswithPS2havingthelargestpercentageof
thatbusinessduetoitslargerinstalledhardwarebase.Weexpectnetrevenuesfromhand-heldtitlestoremainthesmallestcomponentofourpublishingnetrevenues.
However,withtherecentreleasesoftheNDSandPSPplatforms,weexpecttoseeacontinuedincreaseinourhand-heldbusinessincomparisontopriorperiods.Our
netrevenuesfromPCtitleswillbeprimarilydrivenbyourproductreleaseschedule.
Asignificantportionofourrevenuesandprofitsisderivedfromarelativelysmallnumberofpopulartitlesandbrandseachyearasrevenuesandprofitsaresignificantly
affectedbyourabilitytoreleasehighlysuccessfulor“hit”titles. For example,forthe yearendedMarch31,2005,31%ofourconsolidatednetrevenuesand41%of
worldwidepublishingnetrevenueswerederivedfromnetrevenuesfromour
Spider-Man 2, THUG 2
and
Call of Duty: Finest Hour
titles.Thoughmanytitleshavesubstantialproduction
or acquisitioncosts andmarketingbudgets,once atitle recoupsthesecosts,incrementalnet revenuesdirectlyandpositivelyimpact operatingprofits resultingina
disproportionateamountofoperatingincomebeingderivedfromtheseselect titles.Weexpectthatalimitednumberoftitlesand brandswillcontinue toproducea
disproportionatelylargeamountofournetrevenuesandprofits.
