increase over the 8.3 million who flew with us the previous year.
Complaints are at an all-time low, and compliments are
soaring. In a recent customer survey, our passengers told us they
were very happy with their AirTran Airways experience. Nearly 82% of
those surveyed were very satisfied, and 90% said they were likely to
fly with us again. We now operate one of the youngest, most efficient
fleets in the industry. By offering dual-class service with assigned
seating, our passengers decide what class best fits their needsnot
the other way around. Those who fly AirTran Airways are enjoying
the space our aircraft provide, with an 83% capacity needed before
someone gets a middle seat. Our Boeing 717 aircraft provide 100%
fresh-air ventilation systems and EasyFit overhead bins, bringing
smiles to our customers, who have told us were on the right path.
Cost control continues to be the driving force behind every decision
we make. In 2002, adding brand new Boeing 717s to our fleet resulted
in a 24% decrease in per plane fuel costs. Cost containment and pro-
ductivity increases helped to reduce our costs on a unit basis by
8.8%. We know what it takes to create and sustain growth, and will
continue to follow the business model that got us here. Our goal is
aggressive: to grow at 25% in 2003 and beyond. Yet, we are taking
nothing for granted. We must remain singularly focused on our
customers. We must continue to prove that we will deliver on our
promise of value and profitability. As we expand westward, we must
continue to maintain a healthy balance of growth into appropriate mar-
kets while keeping a watchful eye on the competition. AirTran Airways
