OLYMPUS 2010 1
The greatest strengths of Olympus Groups Medical Systems Business
are in its world-leading gastrointestinal endoscopes as well as
surgical and endotherapy products that are drawing attention as
means of minimally invasive treatment. In endotherapy products
used in endoscopic surgery, Olympus is working to expand its lineup
with the goal of making it easier to remove pathological tissue while
developing new surgical techniques. For endotherapy products used in
laparoscopic surgery, the use of which has expanded in the last dozen
years, Olympus is striving to develop technologies that enable the
slimming down of devices, such as trocars providing conduits between
inside body cavities and outside the body, in order to reduce the size
of the abdominal incisions needed for their use. In addition, Olympus
launched devices for LESS Surgery* in North America, Europe and Asia
in 2009. Olympus is creating new fields and markets through the devel-
opment of medical equipment that carefully reflects doctors opinions
while reducing the burdens placed on patients and their family.
