REVIEW OF OPERATIONS
Corporations ongoing structural management reforms,
including the optimization of the Groups management
resources and the revision of its business portfolio,
bore fruit.
OUTLOOK FOR FISCAL 2011
We are expecting revenue to increase on the back of
strong sales of mobile handsets. Therefore, Olympus
anticipates sales of ¥200 billion and operating income of
¥4 billion in the Information & Communication Business.
The Information & Communication Business is man-
aged by consolidated subsidiary ITX Corporation, which
engages in mobile handset sales. Promoting manage-
ment structural reforms, ITX Corporation reviewed
its business categories. On the back of this, a portion
of the Information & Communication Business was
transferred to the Others business during the fiscal
year under review.
Sales in the Information & Communication Business
rose 23.8% year on year to ¥189,354 million (US$2,104
million), and operating income jumped 194.1% to
¥4,864 million (US$54 million).
This sales increase was attributable to the expansion
of ITX Corporations mobile handset sales networks
through aggressive M&A. Earnings were up as well
thanks to this expansion as well as efforts to increase
sales ratio of profitable stores, including those that
are directly managed and franchises. Furthermore, ITX
