business activities, we aim to generate new busi-
nesses that can serve as core businesses or support
for future core businesses over the next 10 years.
To that end, we are integrating our own new busi-
nesses and those of ITX Corporation and are sharing
management resources. By doing so, we will further
reinforce the Groups overall capabilities and realize
the transition to an efficient management structure
that can accelerate searching for and developing
new businesses.
Capital Investment and Financial Policies
Lastly, I would like to talk about the capital invest-
ment and financial policies necessary for the steady
implementation of corporate-level strategy and
strategy by business segment.
In the area of capital investment, we have
earmarked a total of ¥230 billion over the next five
years, mainly for the Medical Systems Business. With
the aim of achieving a lean corporate structure, we
will carefully examine cost efficiencies to determine
where to invest. In R&D activities, we will focus our
investment on imaging, next-generation health care
and environmental technologies.
Regarding the improvement of financial strength,
we will carefully review the cash flows of each
business with the aim of raising the consolidated
equity ratio to more than 25% while reducing
interest-bearing liabilities. We will also maintain
ongoing shareholders return while ensuring our
continued healthy financial standing and investing in
accordance with our growth strategy.
Toward the 100th Anniversary Vision
In the run up to the celebration of its 100th anni-
versary in 2019, Olympus formulated the Centenary
Vision, which, along with 2010 CSP, symbolizes the
Groups vision and commitment to social responsibil-
ity (see above).
By steadily implementing the above 2010 CSP-
based strategies over the next five years, we will
make Groupwide efforts attain this Centenary Vision.
