OLYMPUS 2010 15
2.
BIOLOGICAL
MICROSCOPE
BX53
Olympus made a full-model
change in its existing mainstay
biological microscope series,
introducing the BX53 for research
and inspection use. The BX53
is suited to various observation
methods, including fluorescent
observation with excellent
operability.

3D MEASURING
MICROSCOPE
LEXT
OLS4000
With a measuring capability
equivalent to that of a contact
profilometer, the LEXT OLS
4000 helps improve safety
and reliability as a good work
partner in the industrial field.
In collaboration with industrial
designer Chiaki Murata, who
advocates the “designing of
action,” Olympus thoroughly
examined how users utilize
laser microscopes. Based on
this study, we devised a user-
friendly and efficient product
design.
DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS
Sales of diagnostic systems dropped 68.4% to ¥16,292
million (US$181 million) during the period before the
business transfer on August 2, 2009.
OUTLOOK FOR FISCAL 2011
From the fiscal year ending March 31, 2011, the
Life Science Business will include the printers and
non-destructive testing devices businesses of the
Others Business and its name will change to the “Life
Science and Industrial Systems Business. Therefore,
because of the impact of foreign currency exchange
rate fluctuations and the sale of the diagnostic systems
business, sales are expected to decrease; however, profit
is expected to increase, reflecting declining costs and
other factors.
In fiscal 2011, Olympus expects sales of ¥103 billion
and operating income of ¥11 billion in the Life Science
and Industrial Systems Business.
