*Olympus survey as of the
product release in July 2009
VOICE RECORDERS
Sales of voice recorders decreased 17.9% from the previous
fiscal year to ¥16,047 million (US$178 million). Domestic
demand for IC recorders gradually recovered in the second
half of the fiscal year under review; however, unit sales
prices decreased worldwide and the stagnant demand
in the first half of fiscal 2010 had a large negative effect,
bringing income down.
OUTLOOK FOR FISCAL 2011
Through various efforts, including the development and
reinforcement of the marketing structure for Micro Four
Thirds System-based interchangeable lens-type digital
cameras as well as ongoing cost reduction efforts, Olympus
will strive to increase the stability of its earnings founda-
tions. While promoting worldwide marketing activities
for the OLYMPUS PEN interchangeable lens-type digital
cameras, the Company will improve its profitability through
cost-reduction measures. In light of these initiatives, net
sales and operating income are expected to be ¥195 billion
and ¥6 billion, respectively, in the year ending March 31,
2011.
