seamless end-to-end solution from processing the customer’s application…through
payout of the loan or lease…to transfer of the title back to the customer or to the dealer.
A constant objective of Dealer Sales is to deepen account penetration with products that
our national resources make available, including 401(k) plans for dealer employees, and
products and services for dealership owners and key members of the management team
designed and delivered by our Private Financial Group.
Although we sold $2.1 billion in loans to reduce credit exposure to the auto sector in 2003,
we remain a dominant player in our markets. Huntington now has more than $7 billion of
earning assets in retail and commercial auto dealer products.
Communities
At the heart of our interface with each community we serve is an unwavering belief that a
local bank is, above all else, a good neighbor.
Accordingly, in 2003, our associates contributed thousands of hours of their time and a
vast array of talents to more than 650 organizations.
We initiated a relationship with the Federal Home Loan Bank, which enabled us to obtain
$10 million in low-cost loans and a substantial amount in grants for affordable housing for
elderly and low-to-middle-income families.
In 2001, Huntington Mortgage Group made a $1 billion, 3-year commitment to put home-
ownership within reach of under-served markets. Exceeding that goal by $500 million in
just 17 months, the group committed another $1.5 billion in financing through August 2006.
A top priority for 2004 is development of a program for calling on social service agencies
and other community-based organizations to apprise them of Huntington’s interest and
capabilities in the area of community development. Special attention also will be given to
rolling out literacy programs for adults and children.
Having our mix of national-caliber, non-traditional banking channels is a significant plus
in serving marginalized populations. Many of these customers prefer interfacing with us
privately through our Direct Bank, online, or ATM channels.
Recognizing the need to reach out to non-English-speaking customers, we now work with
a company that provides translation services covering more than 150 languages. The service
is available locally in all regions and instantly handles walk-in inquiries and phone calls.
A bank can thrive no more than the community it serves. We do everything we can to make
each of our communities as proud and prosperous as possible, not just because it’s good
business, but because we live here too.
