PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
To promote public awareness of environmental
issues, we have sponsored the UN Environ-
ment Programme’s ‘Champions of the Earth’,
the UN’s flagship environmental award, from
2010 to 2012. For young people, we created an
innovative mobile classroom called Life’s Green
Class, which is contained in a specialized vehicle
equipped with informative experimental and
imaging equipment. The mobile class was so
successful in Korea that we expanded it to India
in 2010, where it visited more than 70 schools in
its first year.
REDUCING THE IMPACT OF HUNGER, DISEASE
AND NATURAL DISASTER
Working with the UN World Food Programme,
we have provided meals and teaching facilities
for over 24,000 children in 15 LG Hope schools in
Kenya, and equipped 15,000 households in 12 LG
Hope Villages in Ethiopia with green agricultural
tools to enable people to feed themselves and
combat climate change. In 2011, the LG Hope
Family will begin operating in Bangladesh and
Cambodia. In conjunction with Doctors without
Borders, we produced the Hunger Combat televi-
sion documentary, which has been shown in 20
cities on INFINIA TV. Our priorities also include
the eradication of environmental diseases like
cholera and typhoid, and providing aid to survi-
vors of natural disasters. Since 2008, we have
sponsored vaccine R&D and vaccination activities
carried out by the International Vaccine Institute,
and in 2010 we delivered relief funds to people af-
fected by the Haitian earthquake, Pakistani floods
and Russian wildfires caused by climate change.
COMMUNITY-FOCUSED VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
Globally, our focus is on support for marginalized
groups and community development. Staffs at
our worldwide locations participate in Global Vol-
unteer Day, blood donation campaigns, LG Hope
schools and tree planting activities. In Korea,
thousands of LG Electronics managers and em-
ployees have organized themselves into working-
level volunteer groups such as the talent sharing
volunteering activity, Life’s Good Volunteers,
LG IT Angels and Junior Science Class. At the
financial level, the company operates donation
programs including the Salaries Fund, Executive
Social Contribution Fund and Charity Party.
As a caring corporate citizen, LG Electronics supports
the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, which broadly
target the eradication of hunger, disease and inequality while
promoting environmental awareness. We partner with high-profile global
stakeholders to conduct awareness-raising campaigns, channel
donations to the needy, deliver technical assistance for sustainable
infrastructure, and provide HR training and other support for
government, academia and private-sector charities.
