In2015,3Mexpendedabout$26millionforcapitalprojectsrelatedtoprotectingtheenvironment.Thisamountexcludes
expendituresforremediationactionsrelatingtoexistingmatterscausedbypastoperationsthatdonotcontributetocurrentorfuture
revenues,whichareexpensed.Capitalexpendituresforenvironmentalpurposeshaveincludedpollutioncontroldevices—suchas
wastewatertreatmentplantimprovements,scrubbers,containmentstructures,solventrecoveryunitsandthermaloxidizers—atnew
andexistingfacilitiesconstructedorupgradedinthenormalcourseofbusiness.ConsistentwiththeCompany’semphasison
environmentalresponsibility,capitalexpenditures(otherthanforremediationprojects)forknownprojectsarepresentlyexpectedto
beabout$51millionoverthenexttwoyearsforneworexpandedprogramstobuildfacilitiesormodifymanufacturingprocessesto
minimizewasteandreduceemissions.
WhiletheCompanycannotpredictwithcertaintythefuturecostsofsuchcleanupactivities,capitalexpendituresoroperatingcosts
forenvironmentalcompliance,theCompanydoesnotbelievetheywillhaveamaterialeffectonitscapitalexpenditures,earningsor
competitiveposition.
