servicetoolsandinflatableproductstorepairandstimulate
newandexistingwells.Servicetoolsfunctionassurface-
activated,downholesealingandanchoringdevicestoisolate
aportionofthewellbore.Servicetoolapplicationsrangefrom
treatingandcleaningtotestingcomponentsfromthewell-
headtotheperforations.Servicetoolsalsorefertotoolsand
systemsthatareusedfortemporaryorpermanentwellaban-
donment.Aninflatablepackerexpandstosetinpipethatis
muchlargerthantheoutsidediameterofthepackeritself,so
itcanrunthrougharestrictioninthewellandthensetinthe
largerdiameterbelow.Inflatablepackerscanalsosetin“open
hole”asopposedtoconventionaltoolswhichcanonlybeset
insidecasing.Thru-tubinginflatablesenableremedialoperations
inproducingwells.Thisresultsincostsavingsasrigrequire-
mentsarelowerandworkoverscanoccurwithouthavingto
removethecompletion,whichcanbeverycostly.
Fishing.BakerOilToolsisaleadingproviderofspecialized
fishingservicesandequipmentthatareusedtolocate,dis-
lodgeandretrievedamagedorstuckpipe,toolsorother
objectsfrominsidethewellbore,oftenthousandsoffeet
belowthesurface.Otherfishingservicesincludecleaning
wellboresandmillingwindowsinthecasingtodrilla“side-
track”ormultilateralwell.

BakerPetrolite
BakerPetroliteisaleadingproviderofspecialtychemicals
toanumberofindustries,primarilyoilandnaturalgaspro-
duction,butalsoincludingrefining,pipelinetransportation,
petrochemical,agriculturalandironandsteelmanufacturing.
Additionally,BakerPetroliteprovidespolymer-basedproducts
toabroadrangeofindustrialandconsumermarkets.
BakerPetroliteprovidesoilfieldchemicalprogramsfor
drilling,wellstimulation,production,pipelinetransportation
andmaintenanceprograms.Itsproductsprovidemeasurable
increasesinproductivity,decreasesinoperatingandmainte-
nancecostandsolutionstoenvironmentalproblems.Examples
ofspecialtyoilfieldchemicalprogramsinclude:
• Hydrateinhibitors–Naturalgashydratesaresolidice-like
crystalsthatcanforminproductionflowlinesandtubing,
causingshutdownsandtheneedforsystemmaintenance.
Subseawellsandflowlines,particularlyindeepwaterenvi-
ronments,areespeciallysusceptibletohydrates.
• Paraffininhibitors–Theliquidhydrocarbonsproduced
frommanyoilandnaturalgasreservoirsbecomeunstable
soonafterleavingtheformation.Changingconditions,
includingdecreasesintemperatureandpressure,can
causecertainhydrocarbonsintheproducedfluidstocrys-
tallizeanddepositonthewallsofthewell’stubing,flow
linesandsurfaceequipment.Thesedepositsarecommonly
referredtoasparaffin.BakerPetroliteofferssolventsthat
removethedeposits,aswellasinhibitorsthatpreventnew
depositsfromforming.
• Scaleinhibitors–Unlikeparaffindepositsthatoriginate
fromorganicmaterialintheproducedhydrocarbons,scale
depositscomefrommineral-basedcontaminantsinwater
thatareproducedfromtheformationasthewaterunder-
goeschangesintemperatureorpressure.Similartoparaffin,
scaledepositscanclogtheproductionsystem.Treatments
preventandremovedepositsinproductionsystems.
• Corrosioninhibitors–Anotherproblemcausedbywater
mixedwithdownholehydrocarbonsiscorrosionofthe
well’stubularsandotherproductionequipment.Corrosion
canalsobecausedbydissolvedhydrogensulfide(“H2S”)
gaswhichreactswiththeironintubulars,valvesandother
equipment,potentiallycausingfailuresandleaks.Addi-
tionally,thereactioncreatesironsulfidewhichcanimpair
treatingsystemsandcauseblockages.BakerPetrolite
offersavarietyofcorrosioninhibitorsandH2Sscavengers.
• Emulsionbreakers–Waterandoiltypicallydonotmix,
butwaterpresentinthereservoirandco-producedwith
oilcanoftenbecomeemulsified,ormixed,causingprob-
lemsforoilandnaturalgasproducers.BakerPetrolite
offersemulsionbreakerswhichallowthewatercompo-
nentoftheemulsiontobeseparatedfromtheoil.
Fortherefiningindustry,BakerPetroliteoffersvarious
processandwatertreatmentprograms,aswellasfinished
fueladditives.Examplesincludeprogramstoremovesaltfrom
crudeoilandenvironmentallyfriendlycleanersthatdecontami-
naterefineryequipmentandpetrochemicalvesselsatalower
costthanothermethods.
