The modular Daimler hybrid component system offers
enormous exibility in terms of performance and range of
application: Hybrid modules and batteries can be combined
with various gasoline and diesel engines.
Themodulesrangefromthestart-stop functiontoacombination
ofinternalcombustionengineandelectricmotorforperfor-
mance boosts,ortobrake energy recuperationorelectric
drivesystems.Anotheroptionistheplug-in hybrid,whichallows
thebatterytoberechargedfromanelectricsockettoincrease
avehicle’srangeunderelectricpower.
Threetypesofhybridareinuse:Withthetrucks,Daimlerhas
decidedinfavoroftheparallel hybridsystem.Here,theelectric
motorisintegratedintothedrivetrainandgenerallysuppliesits
energyparalleltothedieselengine.Daimler’shybridbuses
useserial hybrid.Ageneratordirectlyconnectedwiththediesel
enginesuppliestheenergyfortheelectricmotor.Two -mode
hybridscombinethosetwoapproaches.
