activities. Selected from a field of 52 competitors from
14 different countries, these awards underscore our
commitment to conduct our operations sustainably—at
the forefront of our industry.
Water is an indispensable natural resource for our company,
our communities, and our world, so we are committed to
responsibly manage our use of water across our organi-
zation. Consistent with this commitment, we worked in
partnership with the International Union for Conservation
of Nature to develop and implement a methodology to
improve and standardize water measurement and manage-
ment throughout our company. Starting in 2013, we rolled
out this methodology to all of the businesses and coun-
tries in which we operate in order to minimize our water
footprint and increase our water efficiency. In addition, we
launched our corporate water policy, which defines our
global strategy for responsible water management and
acts as a framework for the development of local water
conservation and efficiency strategies across our world-
wide operations. This comprehensive policy includes not
only our compliance with relevant regulations, but also our
commitment to protect ecosystems and biodiversity at our
sites through sustainable water management.
Since 1998, more than 2.3 million people in our communi-
ties have benefited from our company’s inclusive busi-
nesses:
Patrimonio Hoy
,
ConstruApoyo
, and Productive
Centers of Self-Employment. In 2013, we continued our
efforts to improve access to quality housing among those
at the lower level of the socioeconomic pyramid through
our award-winning, flagship
Patrimonio Hoy
program.
Moreover, through our
ConstruApoyo
program, we facil-
itate the distribution of funds for the construction, repair,
and extension of homes with a prepaid debit card system,
creating a transparent and more efficient process for qual-
ified families to purchase the building materials they need.
Furthermore, our Productive Centers of Self-Employment
provide community spaces where individuals manufacture
prefabricated building materials, including concrete blocks
and other precast forms. They keep half of their production
for personal construction purposes, while selling the other
half to state and municipal authorities for the construction
of infrastructure in the community. Through all of these
programs, we play a welcome role in improving the quality
of life of the communities we serve.
