REACH REACH is Asia’s largest international wholesale carrier of combined voice, International
Private Leased Circuit and Internet Protocol data services. It is also one of the world’s top ten
carriers of international voice traffic.
REACH has been operating in a difficult environment, characterised by overcapacity and continued
price pressure. Telstra wrote down the carrying value of REACH to zero in February. Subsequently,
in April, REACH concluded the renegotiation of its US$1.5 billion bank loan, which provided REACH
with financial flexibility and an appropriate capital structure.
REACH is actively exploring ways to enhance revenue growth and profitability through product
innovation and increasing the depth of services provided to existing customers. It has also
implemented a value creation program to further reduce overheads and rebalance its cost
structure. We remain positive that the long term prospects for REACH are strong.
Telstra has entered into an agreement with the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games
of the XXIX Olympiad to act as the advisor for the provision of telecommunications consultancy
services for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
