“Listen through the Body” Concert for the Hard of Hearing
Pioneer wants to share truly inspiring moments with more people around the world.
With this desire in mind, Pioneer, using special vibrating chairs that convert sounds
into vibrations, has sponsored more than 30 performances of the “Listen through the
Body” Concert per year across Japan, to bring the joy of music to people who are
hard of hearing. Launched in 1992, these performances are run by Pioneer employee
volunteers and their family members. Meanwhile, the regularly scheduled concert
series held in the Head Office lobby is a variety-filled program that brings to the stage
groups of performers from different musical genres. In recent years, Pioneer has
extended these concerts to locations across Asia, Europe and North America, as it
continues to bring the joy of music to an even broader audience.
“Pioneer Forest”
As a company that uses wood to manufacture speakers, Pioneer is actively involved in
efforts to preserve forests. In 2005, Pioneer signed an agreement with Saitama-ken
Nourinkousha* to have 2.4 hectares of Japanese cypress forest near Lake Kamakita in
Saitama Prefecture designated as “Pioneer Forest.” Pioneer has assumed responsibility
for the regular care of this forest twice annually, in the spring and the fall. Thanks to
employees from Pioneer and their families, who volunteer to clear away brush, trim
branches and perform other tasks, this once dark patch of woods with little sunshine
has been transformed into a bright and vibrant forest. In addition to its ongoing
management, through activities involving forests such as outdoor nature classes,
Pioneer will further enhance initiatives to nurture the environmental awareness of
children, who are responsible for the next generation.

Sharing the Joy of Manufacturing and Engineering with Children
As an active supporter of education, Pioneer is involved in the effort to train a new
generation in manufacturing and engineering by having students experience the
enjoyment of these pursuits firsthand. Pioneer’s Monozukuri Workshop: Experiential
Study of Manufacturing and Engineering for elementary school students is part of this
effort. In the workshop, led by Pioneer employees, children are given the opportunity
to create paper speakers, assemble DVD players, and take part in other activities. The
sheer excitement and surprise that children experience from hearing sound from their
first speaker, or watching video from a DVD player they put together, is an important
part of the joy of manufacturing and engineering that Pioneer is sharing with more
and more children.
