EVIS LUCERA
SPECTRUM
In addition to normal light observation
with high-resolution HDTV imaging,
the EVIS LUCERA SPECTRUM is
equipped with Narrow Band Imaging
(NBI), Auto Fluorescence Imaging
(AFI) and Infra Red Imaging (IRI), three
imaging functions using specific light
spectra. Capillaries on the mucosal
surface and intricate patterns on the
mucous membranes can be more
clearly observed using NBI.
REVIEW OF OPERATIONS
> Business Overview
In the medical equipment market, growth in the inspec-
tion device field has been stagnant, although such
therapeutic device fields as surgical and endotherapy
devices have shown market growth and drawn attention
for technological innovation.
To differentiate itself from other companies, the
Olympus Group is developing next-generation systems
by concentrating on improving the accuracy of diagnostic
imaging in its mainstay endoscope field. Along with
this, the Group is accelerating the establishment of
development and manufacturing structures tailored
to the markets of the Americas, Europe and Asia
including Japan. Furthermore, the Group is focusing on
strengthening its business foundation through such
measures as M&A and the development of new products,
specifically, it is expanding the scale of its surgical and
endotherapy device operations aiming for a level on par
with its endoscope operations. As part of such efforts,
Olympus acquired Spiration, Inc., a U.S. pulmonary device
company, in 2010, thereby gaining entry into the non-
cancerous respiratory diseases treatment field.
In the global market, Olympus established a local sub-
sidiary in India in 2010 to develop regional strategies and
a business foundation in the burgeoning Asian market.
