DEVELOPMENT OF ADVANCED
INFORMATION DISCLOSURE SYSTEM
SUPPORTING XBRLFORMATTED
FINANCIAL REPORTING
—Financial Services Agency—
International discussions on financial reporting standards
have begun in recent years amid the growing need to create a
global supply chain for the distribution of financial information.
In this climate, lively debates surrounding the adoption of the
XBRL*1 data formatting standard are taking place worldwide.
Japans Financial Services Agency (FSA) announced in March
2006 its plan to optimize systems and administration for financial
reporting. In tandem with this announcement, the agency decided to adopt a new system supporting XBRL for the EDINET*2
financial reporting system that it operates. Fujitsu has developed that system.
XBRL is fast becoming a globally accepted method of formatting financial data. At the leading edge of this trend, the new
XBRL-compatible EDINET system will not only improve the accuracy of the financial reports submitted by individual corpora-
tions, but will also enable investors, analysts, and the media to readily process and analyze the information. Going forward, the
system is expected to accelerate the generation, distribution, and utilization of XBRL-formatted financial reports.
The new EDINET system is built around Fujitsus “Interstage XWand” middleware, which is being sold globally in over 20
countries. Designed to meet the latest XBRL 2.1 Specification, EDINET is a cutting-edge system that has garnered worldwide
attention. Based on submitted XBRL-formatted financial reports, it automatically generates HTML images that are compliant
with FSA regulations.
Amid various global efforts to standardize the disclosure of corporate information, Fujitsu has actively participated in numer-
ous XBRL standard-setting consortiums around the world, particularly XBRL International, XBRL Japan, and XBRL US, working to
promote XBRL standardization worldwide. Fujitsu is also committed to providing total support for customers adopting XBRL,
ranging from consulting services regarding XBRL applications in customer operations to system integration solutions.
*1 XBRL: eXtensible Business Reporting Language. XBRL is a standardized international computer language based on XML for generating, distributing, and using
various types of financial reporting information. XBRL is a registered trademark of XBRL International, Inc. in the US and other countries.
*2 EDINET: “Electronic Disclosure for Investors’ NETwork.
