Greener taxiing
In 2013, amongst other initiatives, Air France participated in the Electric Green
Taxiing System in partnership with Honeywell and Safran. This system aims
to significantly reduce the use of engines and vehicles to move aircraft on the
ground. It represents a key economic advantage while reducing gas and noise
emissions. Air France also pursued its investment in reducing the weight
of aircraft, and thereby its impact on the environment, notably by equipping
its long-haul aircraft with lighter baggage containers.
For further information on sustainable development within the Air France-KLM group,
please see the Corporate Social Responsibility Report at www.airfranceklm.com.
Optimized flights
On March 8, 2013, KLM launched
a series of 26 fully-optimized
flights between Amsterdam and
New York. These flights powered
by sustainable biofuels are aimed
at implementing the most
appropriate procedures to each
stage of the flight to reduce fuel
consumption and CO2 emissions.
This initiative enables a 5% saving
on fuel relative to a standard
flight. Furthermore, since 2012,
KLM has offered companies
the opportunity to participate
in an innovative project: become
a partner in the Biofuel program
and travel on biofuel-powered
flights. Fourteen companies
have already signed up to this
partnership, demonstrating that
there is a real market for this type
of flight.
In 2013, for the ninth successive year,
the Dow Jones Sustainability index (DJSI) named
Air France-KLM the leader in the airline industry.
For the fifth year running, the Group was also
ranked number one in the broader Transport
category. This award recognizes the 24 most
responsible companies in the world, each in their
sector of activity.
