Patient Safety First Payment Innovation IBM Watson
In order to improve the health care system—making it safer and more affordable—we must
make significant changes in how we work with and pay hospitals and physicians. And we
are doing just that by shifting to a system that rewards the value rather than the volume of
health care services provided to patients.
We are proactively working with physician and hospital partners and the public and private
sectors to develop new approaches for rewarding care that help our members live healthier,
more rewarding lives. For example, our award-winning Quality-In-Sights® Hospital Incentive
Program now ties increases in hospital payments to their performance against nationally
endorsed patient safety, evidence-based guidelines and patient satisfaction measures.
