2014 AARP ANNUAL REPORT 3
REPORT FROM THE AARP CEO
2014 was a watershed year for AARP. While we focused a spotlight
on the last of the Boomer generation turning 50, we also brought
people 50-plus the tools and resources they need to reimagine
what’s possible in their lives through Life Reimagined.
Our Real Possibilities campaign helped
people realize that no ones possibilities
should be limited by their age and that
experience has value. And, through
our Enterprise Community Pilots, we
demonstrated that AARP is much more
than a national organization representing
the needs and interests of people 50-plus
in Washington, we are a nationwide
organization helping them to live their
best lives in their communities.
2014 was also a year of transition. I was
humbled when, in May, the Board selected
me to succeed CEO Barry Rand, who led
us through a difficult period and left AARP
stronger than ever. As I began my tenure as
CEO in September, I set out on a mission to
disrupt aging—to change the conversation
in this country about what it means to grow
older. Its not about aging; its about living.
I truly believe that age and experience can
expand the possibilities in life for every
member of our society, and I want to help
people see growing older as a period in their
life to look forward to, not something to fear.
To do that, we are focusing on health
security, financial resilience and personal
fulfillment—what I call health, wealth
and self. This report details our efforts to
accomplish these goals in 2014. As we enter
2015 and beyond, we will build upon our
work in 2014 and continue fighting for and
equipping people to live their best lives. Jo Ann Jenkins
