2014 AARP ANNUAL REPORT 17
SIMPLIFYING TRAVEL—NEAR AND FAR
A trip to the St. Louis River in Duluth, Minnesota, created special
memories for one AARP member. “My 12-year-old grandson and
I experienced the thrill and exhilaration of white-water rafting
together.”
“We were soaked from head to foot, but
what a rush!” he said, after submitting this
picture for AARP’s 2014 Vacation Photo
Memory Contest.
The joy, adventure and relaxation of travel
are what people are after—not the hassles
associated with planning or booking trips.
AARP Travel, an online tool introduced in
March, made it easier for users to take their
travel ideas from dream to destination. It
was a hit, with page views jumping 120 per-
cent over 2013.
For example, the interactive Trip Finder
made discovering new places an adventure
in itself. Every destination guide included a
Map Explorer feature that let users create a
personalized itinerary for hotels, eateries, at-
tractions and even AARP member discounts.
A future enhancement will enable people to
develop and share joint itineraries.
Research shows that travel ranks as the top
aspiration for people 50-plus.
