( a) Oper ating Segment Infor mation
The operating segm ents presented below are the segm ents of Ricoh for which sep-
arate financial inform ation is available and for which a m easure of profit or loss
is evaluated regularly by Ricoh’s m anagem ent in deciding how to allocate
resources and in assessing perform ance. The accounting policies of the segm ents
are substantially the sam e as those described in the sum m ary of significant
accounting policies, as discussed in Note 2.
Ricoh’s operating segm ents are com prised of office equipment, including
copiers and related supplies, com munications and inform ation system s, and oth-
ers, including optical equipment and electronic devices.
The following tables present certain information regarding Ricoh’s operating
segments and operations by geographic areas for the three years in the period
ended March 31, 2003.
