opportunities for our franchisees to
grow profit and expand our brand.
I could not be more proud of the
Popeyes team or more excited about
Popeyes’ future. I look forward to
serving you, our people, guests and
franchisees in the years ahead.
Sincerely,
Cheryl A. Bachelder
Chief Executive Officer,
Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Inc.
We expanded our development of
company-operated restaurants by
adding six new restaurants in two new
markets, Indianapolis and Charlotte, plus
three restaurants in our heritage
markets of Memphis and New Orleans.
We also opened two new franchise inter-
national markets, Vietnam and Chile.
In 2013, Popeyes’ system-wide sales
increased 8.2 percent, driven largely by
global same-store sales performance
and the sales in our new restaurants.
Global same-store sales increased 3.7
percent, compared to 6.9 percent last
year. Marking the fifth consecutive year
of growth, domestic same-stores sales
were up 3.6 percent on top of a 7.5 per-
cent increase last year.
“Looking forward, we will continue to invest in building leader
capabilities to support our ambition of becoming a best-in-class
employer, consistently delivering superior service to our guests.
More Growth Ahead
Today, we continue to invest in building
leader capabilities to support our
ambition of becoming a best-in-class
employer, consistently delivering
superior service to our guests.
In fact, our No. 1 strategic initiative for
the next five years is to transform
ourselves into a company known
throughout our industry for a superior
branded employee and guest experience.
This is a deliberate investment in human
capital that we believe will strengthen
our performance over the long term.
Looking ahead, we expect to deliver
even stronger results — with more new
restaurant openings and more
