there is less need for the driver to change his or her line of
vision or focus, for more comfortable, easier driving.
In addition, recent years have seen a rapid expansion
of mobile telecommunications infrastructure, while
smartphones have gained attention as information devices
closely tied to people’s daily lives. Under the situation,
Pioneer released the carrozzeria smartphone link Navi
Cradle for “docomo DriveNetTM” information service,
operated by NTT Docomo, Inc., in April 2011. This service
provides smartphone users with full-fledged navigation
information and represents a new business model for
Pioneer that derives value from information services and
makes a continuous earnings contribution. The number
of users is expected to grow as smartphones become
increasingly popular.
In May 2012, Pioneer also released the “carrozzeria
smartphone link Appli Unit” in Japan, equipped with a
“linkwith mode” that allows for operation similar to a
smartphone, using a touch panel installed in the vehicle.
In addition to car navigation applications, this unit
makes it possible to enjoy a variety of other applications
downloaded to the smartphone, on a large screen and
through the car speakers.
