Accounting Officer
Thomas J. Kalinske has served as our Chief Executive Officer since February 2004 and previously served in
that capacity from September 1997 to March 2002. He has served on our board of directors since September
1997 and was the Chairman of our board of directors from September 1997 to February 2004. From 1996 to
February 2004, Mr. Kalinske served as the President of Knowledge Universe LLC, which builds, through a
combination of internal development and acquisitions, companies in areas relating to education, technology and
career management. From 1990 to 1996, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sega of America.
Prior to that, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Universal Matchbox Group from 1987 to 1990.
Prior to that, he served as President and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Mattel, Inc. Mr. Kalinske has served as
Chairman of the Toy Manufacturers Association of America, and in 1997, he was inducted into the Toy Industry
Hall of Fame. He is a board member of the Milken Family Foundation, and a past board member of the National
Education Association Foundation for the Improvement of Education and a past board member of the RAND
Education Board. He earned a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin and an M.B.A. from the University of
Arizona.
Jerome J. Perez has served as our President and has served on our board of directors since February 2004.
From July 2003 to February 2004, he was President of Geronimo Consulting LLC, a marketing and consumer
product development consulting firm that provided us consulting services. From November 1991 to July 2003,
Mr. Perez served in various capacities at Fisher-Price, Inc., a subsidiary of Mattel, Inc. that focuses on infant and
preschool toys, most recently as Executive Vice President of Marketing and Design. Prior to that, he served as
Vice President of Marketing at Kenner Products, a division of Hasbro, Inc., from 1985 to 1991. From 1981 to
1985, Mr. Perez served in various marketing positions at the Quaker Oats Company. He has a B.A. from the
University of Notre Dame and an M.B.A from the University of Michigan.
Paul A. Rioux was elected to our board of directors in January 2001, has served as our Vice Chairman since
January 2001 and served as our acting Chief Operating Officer from October 2002 to August 2003 after
implementing our planning, manufacturing and operating strategy since January 2001. Mr. Rioux worked as an
