7. Profit/(loss) attributable to owners of Cathay Pacific
Of the profit attributable to owners of Cathay Pacific, a profit of HK$7,667 million (2008 (restated): a loss of
HK$5,677 million) has been dealt with in the accounts of the Company.
8. Earnings/loss per share
Basic earnings per share and diluted earnings per share are calculated by dividing the profit attributable to owners of
Cathay Pacific of HK$4,694 million (2008 (restated): a loss of HK$8,696 million) by the daily weighted average
number of shares in issue throughout the year of 3,934 million (2008: 3,934 million) shares and 3,934 million
(2008: 3,935 million) shares respectively with the latter adjusted for the effects of the share options.
