SELECTED CONSOLIDATED FINANCIAL DATA
The selected consolidated fi nancial data of Barnes & Noble, Inc. and its subsidiaries (collectively, the Company) set forth on
the following pages should be read in conjunction with the consolidated fi nancial statements and notes included elsewhere
in this report. On September , , the Board of Directors of Barnes & Noble, Inc. authorized a change in the Company’s
fi scal year end from the Saturday closest to the last day of January to the Saturday closest to the last day of April. The change
in fi scal year, which became eff ective on September ,  upon the closing of the acquisition of Barnes & Noble College
Booksellers, Inc. (B&N College) by Barnes & Noble, Inc. (the Acquisition), gives the Company and B&N College the same
fi scal year. The change was intended to better align the Company’s fi scal year with the business cycles of both Barnes &
Noble, Inc. and B&N College. As a result of the change in the Company’s fi scal year end, the Company is providing fi nancial
data for the transition period and comparable prior period as defi ned below.
The Statement of Operations Data for the  weeks ended April ,  (fi scal ),  weeks ended April ,  (fi scal
),  weeks ended May ,  (fi scal ), and the Balance Sheet Data as of April ,  and April ,  are
derived from, and are qualifi ed by reference to, audited consolidated fi nancial statements which are included elsewhere
in this report. The Statement of Operations Data for the  weeks ended May ,  (transition period),  weeks ended
January ,  (fi scal ) and  weeks ended February ,  (fi scal ) and the Balance Sheet Data as of May ,
, May , , January ,  and February ,  are derived from audited consolidated fi nancial statements not
included in this report. The Statement of Operations Data for the  weeks ended May ,  are derived from unaudited
consolidated fi nancial statements not included elsewhere in this report.
