Platform Technology Division (PTD) revenues
grew 22% over fiscal 2005 to $732 million. From
conceptual design through drafting and detailing,
PTD offers our most flexible, general-purpose
design and documentation tools. Demand for
AutoCAD increased, as customers recognized the
innovation, improved productivity, and quick return
on investment it delivers.
Once again, our new AutoCAD software improved
customer productivity significantly. According to a
study conducted by IT experts Cambashi Limited,
customers “using new features in AutoCAD 2006
completed typical design and documentation tasks
29% faster than participants using AutoCAD 2002.”
Customers enthusiastically responded to the new
releases. Revenues from our flagship products,
AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT, increased 23% in fiscal
2006.
Our Manufacturing Solutions Division (MSD)
had another outstanding year. Revenues increased
29% to $257 million. Manufacturing firms are facing
three major industry trends that are affecting the
entire engineering supply chain: outsourcing,
globalization, and mass customization. With prod-
ucts based on the concept of “functional design,”
Autodesk provides solutions that address these
trends by allowing manufacturers to create better
quality products with accelerated time to market
and reduced costs. In fiscal 2006, we continued to
enhance our leadership position in this important
market. Our purpose built 2D mechanical products
grew faster than our competitors, including their
3D products. Our Autodesk Inventor product
line, comprised of Autodesk Inventor Series and
Autodesk Inventor Professional, was the world’s
best-selling 3D mechanical design software for the
fifth consecutive year. Yet, with all of our terrific
success in this market, only 12% of our manufactur-
ing customer base is using a 3D solution. MSD, our
largest industry segment, is seeing faster growth
than the rest of the manufacturing industry. We
are capturing market share and the opportunity for
greater growth remains tremendous.
Our Infrastructure Solutions Division (ISD) grew
revenues 21% to $178 million. Population growth
and economic development are creating demand
for new roads, railways, and water treatment
facilities. Infrastructure assets worldwide need
maintenance and modernization. Infrastructure
providers—including utilities, governments and
civil engineering firms—face costly and complex
regulations and reporting requirements, shrink-
ing budgets, and increasing competition. Using
Autodesk solutions, they are integrating their
spatial information solutions to obtain complete
visibility and reduce costs, while designing better
bridges, airports, and dams. Our model-based
civil engineering design solution, Autodesk Civil
3D 2006, has quickly become one of our top
selling products. By maintaining intelligent object
relationships, only Civil 3D lets customers complete
design and drafting tasks faster and more easily
by dynamically manipulating any aspect of design.
Revenues from Civil 3D grew more than 500% in
fiscal 2006.
Building Solutions Division (BSD) had another
outstanding year, growing revenues 43% to $178
million. In fact, BSD has more than doubled
revenues in just two years. Building projects are
becoming more complex and demanding, driving
the need for better information. Owners and
operators are requiring sustainable “green” designs
to lower the total cost of ownership. Customers
recognize the value of the Autodesk Revit line of
products, our purpose-built 3D building informa-
tion modeling solutions. As promised, we ex-
tended our reach into the building industry in fiscal
2006, launching Autodesk Revit Structure which
provides fully integrated physical and analytical 3D
modeling for structural engineering, analysis, and
documentation. Increasingly, customers are adopt-
ing these precise and flexible building information
modeling solutions to save time and money,
reduce errors, experience greater productivity, and
produce higher-quality work, all resulting in new
business opportunities for our customers and for
Autodesk.
