Fiscal year 2006 was another outstanding year for Autodesk. Customers around the globe—from design professionals
in the building, manufacturing and infrastructure industries to creative artists in media and entertainment—increas-
ingly adopted Autodesk solutions to realize their ideas to compete and win. Demand was strong across our business
in fiscal 2006, propelling net revenues to a record $1.523 billion. Our continued focus on improving profitability reaped
impressive results: operating margins increased 5 percentage points to 24%, and earnings per diluted share were $1.33.
The key to our current—and ongoing—success is a consistent business strategy that we’ve been executing on year
after year: enabling our customers to realize their ideas by providing the innovative, yet practical, software solutions to
help them create, manage, and share their digital assets.
We’re also paying attention to critical global trends. Expanding consumer choice worldwide is leading to a proliferation
of new products and designs. In the midst of economic globalization, our customers are facing stiff competition. This
unprecedented competitive environment is driving labor market globalization and forcing customers to focus on major
process change to drive productivity, reduce cycle time, and win business anywhere in the world.
These trends have profoundly altered the landscape of our customer environment, presenting significant future
opportunities for Autodesk. Customers are creating more designs and developing more alternatives to deliver a
broader array of choices to consumers. Our design, visualization, and simulation solutions help them explore
alternatives without having to do slow, cumbersome, and expensive redesign and physical prototyping. Our solutions
significantly increase user productivity and offer a very fast return on investment. Moving from 2D to 3D alone can
reduce time to market by as much as 50%.
