For more than 100 years, NU has been woven into the fabric of our communities. From businesses to the
elderly to parents and students, tens of thousands of people directly benefit from our programs and services
each year.
Anear 15-year partnership between CL&P and the Special Olympics Connecticut Winter Games brings
together company employee and retiree volunteers to support hundreds of competing athletes from
across Connecticut. CL&P welcomes the two-day cross-country skiing and snowshoeing competitions
toour Simsbury Service Center, with volunteers making snow, managing the event and cheering on
the competitors. The event is truly special, both for the determined, inspirational athletes and for our
many volunteers.
And NU does not stop at caring for communities in our service area. In the fall of 2004, 225 NU workers
performed extraordinary power restoration work to help Florida recover from three devastating hurricanes.
Crews numbering 21 from CL&P, 16 from PSNH and nine from WMECO safely worked in dangerous
conditions, stifling heat, humidity and rain to help residents and businesses in communities overwhelmed
with destruction and loss. We received hundreds of appreciative phone calls and letters from Florida
residents and businesses thanking us for rushing 1,200 miles to their assistance.
Delivering HEARTFELT COMMUNITY SUPPORT
