Operating Expenses
Information about our operating expenses is as follows:
In evaluating our results, we focus on operating margin excluding stock-based compensation, employer payroll taxes on employee stock
transactions, amortization of intangible assets, the write-off of in-process research and development, acquisition-related items, and the net effect
of the amortization and capitalization of software development costs as we believe this measure reflects our ongoing business in a manner that
allows meaningful period-to-
period comparisons. Operating margins decreased from 16.6% in 2008 to 10.8% in 2009 and from 17.7% in 2007 to
16.6% in 2008, primarily related to stock-based compensation and capitalized software development costs, as opposed to any structural changes
in how we manage or invest in our business. These items are shown in the table below.
