HOW WE PERFORMED IN 2001
MANAGEMENT’S DISCUSSION AND ANALYSIS OF OPERATING PERFORMANCE
This section of our annual report tells you how TD Bank Financial Group and each of our businesses
performed in 2001.
Management’s discussion and analysis of operating performance (MD&A) gives you management’s
perspective on the economy, our performance this year, and how we manage risk and capital.
We measure and evaluate our performance by looking at our operating cash basis net income, total
revenues and expenses. The sections about performance tell you about our key measures and how our
performance as a whole and in each of our businesses has changed over time.
How we manage risk and capital is critical to our overall performance. Managing risk describes the
infrastructure we have in place to deal with the different risks our businesses face. Managing capital
explains how we provide the capital needed to maintain the confidence of investors and depositors,
and provide our common shareholders with a satisfactory return.
The information in the MD&A can help you put our consolidated financial statements in context.
The consolidated financial statements appear in Financial results, starting on page 41.
