Louie entered the local Humane
Society homeless, abused and facing
an uncertain future. A few weeks
later, he left it as a celebrity. When the Armstrong family picked him from one of
our PETsMART Charities®in-store adoption centers, they knew they had found
their perfect dog. What they didn’t know was that they were adopting the 2-millionth
pet saved by PETsMART Charities’ adoption program.
The Armstrongs had wanted to adopt a dog for a long time, but were kept waiting
because of a military commitment in Germany. When they moved back to the
states, the family began making frequent visits to the PETsMART Charities Adoption
Center at their local store to find “their” dog. “When we saw him, we knew right
away that Louie would fit in with us,” wrote Leslie Armstrong.
Louie and the family have appeared on national cable news shows and in other
news features. Louie’s so much a part of the family that today, he even has his
own email address!
Since our inception in 1987,
we’ve helped battle the problem
of pet overpopulation by
refusing to sell cats and dogs.
Instead, we donate store
space to local animal welfare
organizations, who in partnership
with PETsMART Charities, help
give homeless pets a second
chance at life.
PETsMART Charities Adoption
Centers on average find
homes for more than 7,000
pets weekly.
PETsMART and PETsMART
Charities have donated more
than $35 million to help animal
rescue and welfare organizations
in their lifesaving work.
“We felt strongly about adopting a homeless pet and saving a life,
and we wanted to teach our kids life lessons about owning a pet
and the responsibilities that come with it.”
The adoption experience has helped
teach the kids the importance of making thoughtful
decisions about adding a pet to the family and
saving a pets life.
