RELIABILITY /RELIABILITY GOES HAND-IN-GLOVE WITH SAFETY

PSE&G is proud of its record in keeping the lights and power on
and improving the quality of life for customers and communities.
PSE&G serves approximately 2 million electric customers and
1.6 million gas customers in New Jersey’s strategic corridor,
which extends diagonally across the state between New York
City and Philadelphia. The company’s infrastructure is a back-
bone of New Jersey’s economy, underpinning the state’s position
as a leading center of business innovation.
PSE&G has an outstanding record for reliability, not only among
New Jersey utilities but also in the industry. In 2004, for the
third consecutive year, PSE&G received the Reliability One
award for top electric reliability in the Mid-Atlantic region.
The number of electric system outages continued to decline
and, when outages did occur, service was restored even more
quickly than in previous years.
Gas delivery results were equally solid in 2004—with fewer
gas leaks and faster response times contributing to improving
service to customers. PSE&G’s service technicians again set
the standard in 2004 by responding to more than 99.9 percent
of gas leak calls within one hour. In both electric and gas
