Exelon 2014 Summary Annual Report
| 30
Constellation’s wholesale business provides power to utilities,
municipalities and co-ops nationwide, providing these
institutions with a reliable and uninterrupted power supply
24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In 2014 Constellation managed
sales, dispatch and delivery from Exelon’s portfolio of more than
32,000 megawatts of owned capacity and grew through the
acquisitions of ETC ProLiance and Integrys Energy Services,
which increased the company’s retail base to more than 2.5 million
customers. During the year, Constellation served more than 150
terawatt-hours of electric load, approximately 500 billion cubic feet
(BCF) of retail gas, and approximately 3 BCF per day of wholesale
gas optimization.
The company expanded its distributed energy business beyond
solar to include co-generation, standby generation, fuel cells,
battery storage, and electric charging stations – and acquired
a network of compressed natural gas stations – all emerging
technologies that demonstrate the company’s commitment to
creating value for customers through innovative energy solutions.
Like all other Exelon operating companies, Constellation’s goal
is zero injuries; in 2014, Constellation achieved that goal with
perfect OSHA and DART records.
Exelon’s view of a longer-term industry transformation to an integrated energy system means that opportunities to create value and diversify over the next 10 years
will be both in existing markets such as central power generation and traditional transmission and distribution services, and in new adjacent markets such
as distributed generation.
