exelon generation
With 10 sites and 17 units, Exelon Nuclear operates the
largest commercial nuclear fleet in the nation and one
of the largest in the world. Exelon Nuclear represents
approximately 20 percent of the U.S. nuclear industry’s
power capacity and about 3 percent of all U.S. power gen-
eration. Through its focus on safe operations and reliable
production, Exelon Nuclear is a leader in the nuclear power
industry. Exelon-owned generation produced 130,160,357
mwh in 2005, and had a combined capacity factor of
93.5%. In addition, Exelon Nuclear continued its industry
leadership in outage execution, completing nine refueling
outages in an average of 24 days.
Exelon Power, with approximately 615 employees, operates
the company’s fossil and hydroelectric fleet of generating
assets. With plants in Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts,
Pennsylvania and Texas, Exelon Power is capable of supply-
ing approximately 8,000 megawatts of safe, efficient, and
environmentally responsible power generation. Exelon
Power’s fleet of assets complements Exelon Nuclear’s base
load units by providing reliable base load, intermediate and
peak generation while providing Power Team with a diverse
portfolio to remain flexible in the continually changing
electric-utility industry.
Exelon Power Team is the wholesale power marketing
division that focuses on optimizing the value of Exelons
generating portfolio while providing bulk physical power
to Exelon Energy Delivery (ComEd and PECO); Exelon Energy,
the corporation's retail energy marketing entity in the
Midwest; and other wholesale customers. Power Team also
purchases fuel for Exelon Power. Since its formation in
1994, Power Team has had a perfect record of supplying
its customers with the product they need, when they need
it most.
exelon business services company
Exelon Business Services Company (BSC) is a direct, wholly
owned subsidiary of Exelon Corporation that provides
shared services across the Exelon enterprise. These serv-
ices include information technology, supply management,
and legal services, as well as payroll, accounts payable and
employee benefits administration. BSC also is responsible
for Exelon corporate governance. The company employs
some 2,000 people in Northern Illinois, Pennsylvania and
at virtually every Exelon business location. Approximately
450 of the 2,000 BSC employees solely support the utility
companies, ComEd and PECO.
BSC delivers value to Exelon by providing cost and operat-
ing efficiencies, high-quality service, and by developing
business-unit-specific and enterprise-wide solutions
to create a strong platform for growth. By partnering
closely with Exelon operating businesses and suppliers,
BSC leverages technology and drives economies of scale.
Continuous improvement is the cornerstone of BSC’s
operating strategy.
BSC performed exceptionally well in 2005, surpassing
aggressive cost-savings targets, while improving overall
performance and service levels. BSC introduced a new
operations management system, enabling ComEd to
respond more quickly and effectively in restoring service
to customers. Enabling supply chain savings of $71.7 million
in 2005, BSC exceeded its supply chain savings target
for the second consecutive year. Importantly, its Diverse
Business Enablement program directed some $252 million
of Exelon’s spend for materials and services to minority-
and women-owned businesses. Other highlights include
implementation of online employee self-service payroll
and benefits administration features, and automated
invoice processing–all of which provided added conven-
ience while reducing costs for Exelon.
In 2006, a keen focus on performance measurement and
stronger partnerships with business units, employees
and suppliers will further BSC’s goal of providing excep-
tional service and unparalleled value to support Exelons
quest for world-class performance.
