jointly develop a next-generation Pocket PC with multimedia, wireless Internet and
mobile phone capabilities. This was followed by an agreement in February 2000
with Vodafone AirTouch Plc of the United Kingdom, the world’s largest mobile
phone carrier, to develop a mobile e-mail terminal. Further, in June 2000 we
reached an agreement with iAnywhere SolutionsTM, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary
of Sybase, Inc., to embed the company’s database and synchronization technology in
CASSIOPEIA®Pocket PCs as part of our mobile solutions for the corporate market.
Amid the dizzying pace of innovation and market development that characterizes
mobile networking, we intend to continue to leverage our competitive position in
mobile devices to form alliances with world players that bring complementary
strengths.
BUILDING BLOCKS OF CORPORATE VALUE During the previous fiscal year, we
introduced an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to guide operations in the
Casio Group. As part of this system, a supply chain management (SCM) system went
online in September 1999, and we are currently expanding the system to encompass
Group companies throughout the world. When completed, we expect the SCM
system to contribute to timely marketing plans based on real-time information,
efficient production schedules and shortened lead times between orders and delivery.
This will result in stronger marketing power, more efficient inventory management
and higher profits by reducing opportunity losses.
The coming years hold the promise of entirely new categories for mobile devices.
Casio is well positioned to benefit. We will allocate resources to our Mobile
Network Solutions business as an area of vital strategic importance, and we expect
sales of color LCDs, connecting devices and other core components to continue to
benefit from high growth in mobile information and communications markets.
We intend to use speed, technology and efficiency to realize our potential and
build strong corporate value. Thank you for your support.
